HS2 Works: Revised traffic rerouting around Northway Island from Monday 23 August to late October 2021

LM (Laing O’Rourke and J. Murphy & Sons) on behalf of HS2 are remodelling and improving sections of the existing road network in the area and creating new routes on HS2 land. These road improvements will ensure that when the future station is operational, the local road network is fit for purpose. Upon completion, a new T-junction will replace Northway Island. A new ‘longabout’ is already in operation outside the Holiday Inn Express NEC, on the way to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC).

LM started the creation of the new T-junction in April 2021. To enable them to continue to connect parts of the existing road network to the new routes they create, they are carrying out a series of weekend road closures in 2021 near Northway Island.

The temporary, weekend road closure along sections of the B4438 and A452 on Saturday 21 August and Sunday 22 August 2021 will no longer take place. The next weekend closure will take place in October 2021. LM will confirm the details of these traffic measures in due course.

To continue to remodel and improve sections of the existing road network in the area, LM will install some changes to the existing traffic rerouting around Northway Island which commenced on Monday 19 July.

From Monday 23 August to late October 2021, one of the short sections of Northway Island that was closed on Monday 19 July will reopen, whilst the other section remains closed. Depending on your direction of travel, you may be redirected from Northway Island, along the B4438, and back.

You will still be able to access all routes and direction of travel along the B4438, A452 and Northway will be unaffected. On occasion, temporary, off-peak single lane closures will be installed between Monday 23 August and late October 2021 around the longabout, on the way to the NEC, and along short sections of the B4438.
