Bickenhill & Marston Green Parish Council
Bickenhill and Marston Green Parish Council will be joining thousands of others remembering and paying tribute to the brave men and women who took part in WWII, not only from our country, but other countries that fought side by side with us during the dreadful dark days of war. To play even a small part in paying tribute is humbling and a great honour and we hope residents will join us in paying tribute and in the lighting of the beacon. The nation are being encouraged to sing the great British Hymn, ‘I Vow To Thee My Country’ at 9.30pm on 8th May, coinciding with the lighting of over one thousand beacons and hundreds of Lamp Lights of Peace at 9.30pm that night. We have been asked to encourage family and friends, wherever they may be at this time, to take part and include the wording below: I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love,The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,That lays upon the altar, the dearest and the best,The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. And there’s another country, I’ve heard of long agoMost dear to them that love her, most great to them that knowWe may not count her armies, we may not see her king,Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering,And soul by soul, and silently her shining bounds increase,And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace. ...
